Just stopped into my local station. Before I left my car I could see two cars at the air station and one employee was assisting a man with the complicated task of putting his money in the machine. I was greeted at the entrance of the station by a lady that looked to be in her 60's with a cell phone to her ear. After a dance to get in the door I made my purchase and soon thereafter the employee that was helping the man entered. I was just about to get back in my car when I noticed the second car at the air station had a totally flat tire and inside was the same lady still talking on her cell. I tapped on her glass and asked if I could change her tire for her. She was surprised and explained her cell phone kept cutting out and help would be great. Everything went without a hitch except the handle for her jack was nowhere to be found. I instead used the jack from my car despite not having a proper notch for the frame. Pumped up the spare, and in less than 10 minutes and the job was done and she was on her way.

Point of the story:

To the two able-bodied guys in their 30's working the station: Go pound sand you worthless self-absorbed lazy dick twits.

That is all.

Helping people can be such a mixed bag. People can be nuts, on both sides of the fence.

But you nailed it.

Changing a tire for me is like brushing my teeth. I change my winters with a hand jack every year. It really was nothing.

She was so thankful. Just lovely. It really feels good to lend a hand!

Who the f$@& charges for air???? I learned this the hard way while visiting Indiana (learn from me, stay away from Indiana). I desperately needed air in my trailer tires, and they all charge and none of them can put out more than 30psi. If you charge, it better be the best damn inflator around. Here in Green Bay, air is free...just like America, dammit!

This 30psi limit you speak of is news to me...and horseshit.

People often mention 1984 when worrying about current and near future conditions. I’m beginning to think the absurdity of the world in the movie Brazil is much more apt.

Hell in hand basket, I tell ya.

I live in Texas and gas stations charge for air here. It's a buck and it's usally enough to top off your tires. And you can dial in the PSI to whatever you need it, but the machines comes preset to 32psi.

Here in CA there are coin operated air pumps. Though by law its free if you buy gas (most people don’t know this). Also most people don’t know you can walk in and the attendants will just turn it on for you no matter what. Hell I have filled up bicycle tires at gas stations. Most people are too uninformed to not pay for the air. It is just so the station can make more $$.

The 30psi limit was more due to the shitty compressors. I finally found one geared more towards semis and got them up to 42psi.

When I worked at a gas station, we weren’t allowed to do any maintenance on a car beyond washing windows, checking motor oil (no other fluids) or tire pressure. It was up to the customer to top up their oil or add air pressure, as well. Just sayin’.

That came from a level higher than local management... supposedly it put too much liability on the corporation.

Interesting point.

Liability, sucking the humanity out of everyday life since...

Sad.

We weren’t even supposed to offer any services beyond pumping fuel unless the customer asked. We weren’t even allowed to ask if they wanted their windows washed, it had to be “their idea”. It sucked cause we knew we were providing shit customer service, and I know for a fact many customers went away displeased (it’s a small town in a rural area, and every other gas station in the area jumps all over your car the moment you pull up) but we didn’t have a choice. So glad I don’t work their any more.

Definitely! It was relatively easy for you, but it made a huge difference to her day.

Goes around comes around or whatever
